A man accused of ransacking an iconic Wigan landmark for its chandeliers has gone missing.

Justices issued a warrant for the arrest of Shane Moseley after his no-show at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court.

The 25-year-old is alleged to have burgled Haigh Hall hotel, stealing four large, high-priced and ornate light fittings while causing £2,100 in damages to the premises.

The Ince man had been bailed to appear at court having been charged with burglary. He failed to make an appearance in the dock on the due date. The bench issued a warrant for his arrest without bail, meaning he can be arrested and kept in custody until another court appearance is arranged.

Haigh Hall has recently undergone a £6m restoration, with the stately home being transformed into a showpiece hotel. Its new restaurant has already opened.
