'˜Dirty' Wigan house order after drugs warrant

Neighbourhood officers executed a search warrant at the terraced property in Vine Street, Whelley, on Wednesday.

And when police went inside they were faced with a house filled with rubbish.

One washing bowl was found filled with what appeared to be syringes and needles.

Investigating officers were so concerned about the state of the premises that they called in environmental health officers from Wigan Council.

A Wigan West police spokesman said that the drugs warrants followed conplaints being made about anti-social behaviour and drugs activities.

He added: “A number of items were removed from the address for further examination.”

Police were unable to confirm if any drugs charges had been made.

Will Blandamer, the council’s assistant director for reform and transformation, said: “Our safer communities team visited the property on Vine Street along with GMP and public health officers after reports from members of the public.

“On arrival the property was found to be in a poor condition, therefore we will continue to work with GMP to ensure the property is made safe and does not pose a risk to the local community.”

The property, which has a damaged first floor window, is understood to belong to a private housing association.

The front door has now been sealed off by the authorities.
