HEARING aids worth £7,000 were stolen from a woman in a Wigan nightclub.

Police today launched an appeal for help in tracking down the valuable items which were taken while the 54-year-old victim left her handbag with friends at the Reflex Bar on King Street in the early hours of Saturday August 9.

Her friends inadvertently moved away, leaving the bag unattended and it was quickly stolen by a man, who was caught on CCTV taking it into the toilets before leaving with a carrier bag.

Det Sgt Graham Clare, said: “This was clearly an opportunistic theft and the offender could have had no idea that the contents of the bag hold such personal and monetary value to the victim.

“It is difficult to convey in words the significance the hearing aids have for the victim in her day to day life and above all else we are keen for them to be returned to her.

“Seven thousand pounds is an awful lot of money in anyone’s book so if we can prevent the woman from having to pay for new ones that would be extremely satisfying.

“If you have them in your possession or know where they might be please call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7124 or Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555111.
