A man arrested when a woman suffered a heart attack after a suspected assault has been released without charge after police decided the victim was not attacked after all.

Officers and an ambulance were called to Bradshaigh House, off Wigan Lane, last Wednesday to find a woman of 44 had suffered a cardiac arrest.

She was taken to Wigan Infirmary where her condition was described as critical but stable.

A man was arrested on suspicion of causing her grievous bodily harm with intent. But further investigations concluded that she was not assaulted.

Det Insp Graham Atherton said: “Following further enquiries we have released a 54-year-old man without any further action. The 44-year-old woman has been suffering from a medical condition and remains in hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery.”
