Shanice Boyce completed a five-mile walk from her house in Aspull to Rivington with her mum, Mandy Jones, and boyfriend Ryan Reid, 18, in aid of Ronald McDonald House and British Heart Foundation (BHF).

The 19-year-old is doing the fund-raising as part of her charity mission for Miss Belle North West.

She said: “Ronald McDonald House helped men when I was younger as I had a heart problem, I found out I had Long QT syndrome, which causes problems with the electrical activity of the heart, when I was seven. I spent a lot of time at Alder Hey Hospitals, as I had two operations and was in for quite a while.

“I had a monitor fitted when I was nine and that was taken out two years later.

“Mum had to travel from Aspull to Liverpool, so staying at Ronald McDonald was a great relief for her. It was a friendly place for her.”

Shanice, who works at Tesco, in Whelley, will now compete in the final of Miss Belle North West at Wrexham on April 10.

She said: “There is an opening round where you introduce yourself to judges and talk about your fund-raising and then there are different rounds with outfits.

“If I was to win this competition I would get through to the Miss Belle UK final in July.

“It would mean a lot if I won, as I have put a lot of effort into fund-raising. I really want to help raise more money and awareness for Ronald McDonald House, which was really supportive when I was ill.

“I enjoy competing in pageants - this is my third one as I have previously entered Miss Wigan and Crown and Glory Lancashire. Miss Belle UK caught my eye as the charities are close to my heart.

“It is a great confident booster and you meet a lot of great people. I also enjoy raising money for charity.”
