Horse rider taken to hospital after incident involving motorbikes on Wigan lane

Local reports suggest the animal became spooked by the revving of the off-road machines' engines, causing the woman to fall from the saddle.

An ambulance attended Miles Lane in Shevington at around 3.30pm on Saturday.

Reports on social media said the rider was taken to hospital but later discharged.

Accounts of the incident posted online said two horse riders were out on Miles Lane when they encountered a group of bikers.

The noise of the engines frightened one of the horses and its female rider fell off.

The scared animal was caught and was unhurt.

The other rider quickly managed to dismount and prevent her horse from running off.

The bikers left the scene, heading towards both Shevington and Appley Bridge.

Dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident is now being sought.
