RESIDENTS trying to ring Wigan’s hospitals may have difficulties getting through as essential maintenance is carried out tonight and early tomorrow.
Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust says that between 8.45pm and 1.30am there may be occasional 15-minute periods when calls can neither be made into and out of Wigan and Leigh Infirmaries’ telephone system.
A Trust spokeswoman said: “We are asking the public to be patient and to call back after 15 minutes if they do not get an answer.
“Mobile telephones and radio systems will be in use within key clinical areas of our hospitals during the telephone system maintenance to ensure essential communications can be maintained.
“The timing of the maintenance has been chosen to cause minimum disruption for patients, visitors and staff.
“The maintenance work is to correct a telephone problem being experienced at the Thomas Linacre Centre.
“People calling our hospitals may have noticed it is taking longer than normal for calls to be answered. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
