A BRAZEN thief is being hunted after walking off with £10,000 worth of jewellery from a Wigan store.

A delivery of gems and watches was being made to the Ernest Jones shop, on Standishgate, when the crook opened the back of the unlocked van and snatched a plastic blue box of goods.

He was captured on CCTV getting into a silver Ford estate car on lower Standishgate, outside McDonald’s, before driving off on to Crompton Street and then right on to Riverway.

Police today appealed for information about the theft, which took place at 9.20am on Monday, December 12.

The thief is described as white, of large build, aged between 30 and 50, wearing a black hat and high-vis jacket.

PC Kathryn Allen, from the Volume Crime Team, said: “There were a lot of people about, and he simply walks down the road without breaking into an attention-seeking run. The thief appears to have been lying in wait.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7203, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
