Images released in connection with Wigan train line cable theft

Images have been released after thousands of pounds worth of cable was stolen from a Wigan train line.

British Transport Police are appealing for help following the theft, which occurred between 4am and 7am on 16 June. During the incident a "large quantity" of cable was stolen from the Haydock Branch line close to Golborne in Wigan.

This is one of a number of incidents in the area that has resulted in the theft of cable with an estimated value of £9,000.

Officers have conducted a number of enquiries and are today releasing CCTV images of a man they would like to speak with in connection.

BTP officers added: "Cable theft is not a victimless crime and can incur a huge cost to the rail industry. Officers continue to work closely with Network Rail and train operators to prevent cable theft and ensure that offenders are brought to justice."
