A COLLISION involving three cars forced a main road to shut for around half an hour and has now prompted a police investigation.
Emergency services were called to Wigan Road in Hindley following reports of a collision at around 10.15pm on Thursday.
Fire crews found a blue Ford Fusion, a black Ford Focus and a black Suzuki Swift had collided on the stretch of road between Ince and the junction with Liverpool Road and Market Street in the centre of Hindley.
Wigan Road had to be closed while firefighters and officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) dealt with the incident.
The three drivers suffered only minor injuries, though one woman was complaining of neck pain and is believed to have been taken to Wigan Infirmary as a precaution.
The cause of the incident is now under investigation by GMP but firefighters said there was also an important road safety message.
Watch manager Neil Watson from Hindley fire station said: “I think the reason the drivers only sustained minor injuries was that they all had seat belts on, so this incident shows the importance of doing so.”
