An investigation is under way following a late night house fire in Wigan.

Firefighters were called out to Montrose Avenue, Norley, shortly before 11pm on Wednesday night by residents who had spotted smoke pouring from the first floor of a semi-detached home.

The blaze had broken out in a bedroom, and by the time emergency workers arrived the flames had spread to another one.

Crews in two engines from Wigan and one from Hindley used breathing apparatus, a hose and a ventilation fan to tackle the fire, which was quickly extinguished.

Thankfully no-one was in the building at the time of the incident and no casualties have been reported.

A fire service spokesman said that the cause of the incident was still under investigation.
