SCORES of jobs are set to go at Wigan-based sportswear firm JJB Sports.

The company has entered a consultation period with staff over the potential loss of 68 jobs from its head office in Challenge Way, Martland Mill.

The struggling firm was recently rescued from the brink of administration. In April, JJB announced a restructure under a company voluntary agreement (CVA), and quit the London Stock Exchange to join the “junior” Alternative Investment Market.

A source, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It is a tense time at the moment, to be put in a situation like this is really horrible. People just desperately want to remain in work.”

The GMBs union said none of its members – who are mostly in the warehouse – were directly affected by the cuts.
