The Wigan Warriors players were given a very special send-off before the trip to Catalans - by the inspiration behind the local charity which will feature on their jerseys.

Eight-year-old Joseph Kendrick, along with his family, met coach Shaun Wane and the squad after the final training session before the squad jets out to France.

The Joseph’s Goal logo will be emblazoned across the front of Wigan’s shirt for the game in Perpignan, with 188BET unable to take their usual place on the front of the Warriors’ alternate shirt due to French advertising restrictions.

The betting company have kindly allowed for the position to go to Joseph's Goal, with all of the match-worn shirts from the game to be auctioned off later in the year.

Joseph’s Goal was set up by the Wigan Post and Observer Latics reporter Paul Kendrick and wife Emma after Joseph was born with NKH (Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia).

Money raised by the charity goes towards researching the very rare life-limiting genetic disorder.

Club Captain, Sean O’Loughlin, an ambassador of Joseph’s Goal, said: “You can’t help but be inspired by Joe and his incredible story. I’ve got to know Joe and his family quite well over the years and it’s amazing how he keeps battling on.

“Given just weeks to live when he was born, Joe is a Warrior in the literal sense and someone the town is really proud of. I couldn’t think of a better and more worthy cause for us to get behind as a club. Hopefully this will raise more awareness for the charity and plenty of money too!”
