Joy for thousands of Wigan families on National Offer Day

Overall 97.8 per cent of pupils have had one of their preferences met, a slight increase from 97.7 per cent in 2017.

There are 91.4 per cent of pupils who will be heading to their first choice in school, the same figure as last year. The numbers going to their second choice school have risen slight last year from 4.8 to 5.1 per cent and 1.3 per cent have been give their third choice - a slight decrease from 1.5 last year,

A total of 3,621 children have applied for a primary school place in September 2018.

And pupils will be having the best possible start to life at school as Wigan Borough’s primary schools are consistently rated among the best in the North West.

James Winterbottom, director of children’s services, said: “We are so pleased that more than 97 per cent of children will be starting their school life in reception class this September at one of their preferred schools.

“We have a brilliant track record in Wigan Borough for enabling children to get into the school of their choice and this is down to early planning to help meet demand.”

Percentage who received one of their choices: 97.8% (3540)

Percentage who received first choice: 91.4% (3309)

Percentage who received second choice: 5.1% (185)
