Kidnap was ‘false alarm’

POLICE rushed to a village near Wigan on Saturday night after fears that a man had been kidnapped.

Initial reports led officers to believe that a man had been bundled into a white van by two other men outside the Crooke Hall Inn, in Crooke Village, shortly before 9pm.

But after police interviewed the woman who made the emergency call, they said the incident was not what it first appeared to be.

A spokesperson for GMP said: “We were called to the scene and a man appeared to have been bundled into a van by two men.

“However, all parties involved were later found safe and well, and have been spoken to by our officers. No further action is being taken.”
