A 60-year-old man who died after suffering a serious head injury in Wigan has now been formally identified.

Michael John Warhurst, of Scot Lane, Wigan, died following the incident in the early hours of Monday, October 8.

It is believed Mr Warhurst suffered his injury outside Chicago Rock on King Street some time around 1.30am.

Detectives have confirmed that Michael was pushed over and, as he fell backwards onto the roadway, his head struck the floor.

A 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter has been released on bail pending further inquiries until November, 19.

A post mortem examination concluded the cause of death was due to a head injury.

Detective Inspector Andy Cunliffe said: “We have had a really positive response to a previous appeal from members of the public, but I want to stress that we still need witnesses to come forward.

“There are still a number of people who were there that night who we are keen to trace.

“Also, this coming Sunday, 14 October 2012, is one week on from this tragic incident.

“As a result detectives will be out in the King Street area speaking to people who may have been out on the previous Sunday who have not yet come forward”.
