MOTORISTS are stuck in long traffic queues after a motorway pile-up in Wigan.

The incident, which involved an HGV, van and two cars, occurred at 12.15pm on Thursday on the M6 northbound carriageway between junction 24, Ashton, and 25, Bryn.

One lane was re-opened shortly after 1pm, with the two remaining lanes open an hour later whilst highways officers and Lancashire Police removed the damaged vehicles.

Queues were backed up six miles to the Thelwall Viaduct.

All people involved escaped with minor injuries and paramedics treated them at the scene.
