A WELL-known soft drinks chain leant a helping hand to the Latics players who, unlike their supporters, are on a strict alcohol ban for their celebrations.
With two further ‘cup finals’ to come for Latics to prolong their Premier League status, Roberto Martinez’s charges had to keep a lid on their partying.
But help was at hand as drinks manufacturer Barr - which up until 2006 had a factory in Atherton - has provided Latics with a batch of Irn-Bru.
Roberto had joked last week that the fizzy drink would be their tipple of choice because it was a favourite of the Scottish contingent in the squad including club captain Gary Caldwell, Shaun Maloney and James McArthur.
An Irn-Bru spokesman told the Evening Post they would be sending a batch to the visitors’ changing room at the Emirates.
He said: “It was a phenomenal result for Wigan and we are sending the team a special delivery of Irn-Bru.
“We heard that Roberto had mentioned us because it was the drink of choice for the Scottish lads in the side.
“So hopefully this batch delivered to their training ground and to Arsenal will add some extra fizz to the celebrations.”
