WORKERS at Wigan’s HMV store could have their jobs saved after a restructuring specialist moved to take control of the stricken business.

The music and DVD retailer went into administration last week, putting the jobs of 4,000 employees in doubt across their 223 UK stores, including those at the outlet within the town centre’s Grand Arcade.

However, administrators Deloitte have announced that specialist Hilco, which already own HMV Canada, has bought HMV’s debt, paving the way for them to gain full control of the company.

Nick Edwards of Deloitte said that they are working closely with Hilco to seek a positive outcome for the business.

He said: “Stores continue to trade and at this time we remain hopeful of securing a long-term future for HMV as a going concern.”

Earlier in the week it was confirmed that, as of Tuesday, all previously bought HMV gift cards would be accepted in all stores.

The company’s debt was estimated to be £176m but Hilco are understood to have paid much less.
