Wood had been set alight in the main building at around 6pm.

As they were putting out the fire, a group of youths was spotted heading back into the building, possibly to start another fire.

It followed a similar incident on Friday, when firefighters tackling a blaze in a building on the site spotted smoke from a second fire coming from the mill.

Fire crews from across Wigan and Bolton spent several hours putting out the two fires.

And on Monday, firefighters were called when timber was set alight.

Several warnings have been issued urging people to stay away from the former college site.

Tony Callaghan, watch manager at Wigan fire station, said today: “Something needs to be done otherwise someone will get injured.”
