MINDLESS vandals are being hunted after trashing 16 cars in Wigan.

Between 12.30am and 1.30am on Sunday, louts scratched the vehicles parked on three main roads in Orrell.

They struck in Up Holland Road, Sefton Road and St James’s Road, causing damage to the paintwork of the cars, which were parked on the streets outside homes.

Bev Saunders, 51, was shocked to discover her black Nissan Micra had been badly scratched outside her home in Sefton Road.

She said; “I have scratched my car a few times myself, but now there are a lot more scratches.

“I am not going to do anything about it – there is not a lot I can do.

“I could fill in a few of the spaces where the scratches are really bad. At least my car has not been dented – that would have been worse.

“But if the vandals have scratched other cars, it depends what other damage has been caused.

“I live opposite the Delph Tavern, so any noise I heard I just assumed was people outside.”

PC Martin Dickinson, community beat bobby in Wigan, said: “This senseless vandalism has left a number of residents understandably very annoyed and also out of pocket.

“I would urge anyone who has any information about those responsible to call the police.”

Police are keen to identify two teenagers, aged between 14 and 17 years old, both between 5ft 4ins and 5ft 7ins tall, one who was wearing a white hooded top and another who was wearing a grey hooded top.

Anybody with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7967, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
