M6 crash - man airlifted to hospital

A MAN was airlifted to hospital after a serious crash on the motorway near to Wigan.

The 48-year-old was rushed to Preston Hospital with suspected spinal injuries after a collision in his van with two cars on the M6 northbound inbetween Standish and Orrell.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3pm today (Saturday).

A family, three adults and two children in one car, and a male in another car suffered no injuries and were treated by paramedics for shock.

Three lanes were closed on the motorway for 45 minutes while the cars were removed from the scene of the incident.
