Police and paramedics were called to Chisnall Hall Nature Reserve, just off Preston Road on the Standish/Coppull border, on Saturday afternoon to reports that a man had lost control of his Honda quad bike.

Local residents reported that the man was a local farmer, and was using the quad to check on the animals when the tragedy occurred.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We were called at shortly after 1pm on Saturday to a report that the driver of a Honda quad bike had lost control of the vehicle on land off Preston Road at Coppull.

"Sadly the driver, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware and our thoughts are with them at this time.

"While enquiries are on-going at this time the incident would appear to be a tragic accident. A file will be prepared for HM Coroner."
