Man, 72, grabbed by privates and hit over the head

A woman grabbed her ex-boyfriend's elderly dad's privates and hit him over the head, a court heard.

Lisa Marie Fisher, 34, of Eastwell Road, Beech Hill, was handed a suspended jail sentence yesterday after assaulting her former partner’s 72-year-old father Brian Shawcross.

Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court heard Fisher had been in a relationship with Simon Shawcross for several years and had split up about six months earlier.

Steve Woodman, prosecuting, said Simon phoned his father on January 12 to say Fisher was causing a disturbance and asked him to go there to help.

When he arrived, he saw Fisher and she started banging her hands on his car and shouting, so he drove around the block hoping she would leave, the court heard.

But when he returned, she was still outside.

Mr Woodman said she was described as being “aggressive” towards Mr Shawcross and tried to push past him to get inside.

He said: “Mr Shawcross has stood his ground,
preventing her from doing so, and at this point Ms Fisher is grabbing at him and proceeds to grab him by the privates while trying to get inside the flat.”

The court heard Mr Shawcross was hit over the head and suffered a cut. Fisher was arrested and claimed she acted in self-defence, but she was convicted in her absence of assault by beating.

Kenny Ip, defending, said Fisher had gone to the house after receiving a phone call from Simon Shawcross saying he was going to self-harm.

Fisher was jailed for four months for assault, plus one month concurrently for two bail offences, suspended for two years.

Magistrates imposed a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement and nine-month drug rehabilitation requirement.

Sentencing, Christopher Hallett, chairman of the bench, said: “You were very close to going to custody today, I hope you realise that.”

Fisher must pay a £115 victim surcharge, £150 compensation and £500 costs.
