A WIGAN man has been accused of grooming a West Country schoolgirl.

Alan Prince has also appeared before a Crown Court judge facing a charge of making an indecent photo of the 15-year-old. It is alleged that the 38-year-old met the youngster, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, on the internet.

It is claimed that he travelled several times to Gloucester to meet her.

Prince, of Barrowdale Road, Golborne, is accused under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

The charge reads that between October 1 last year and April 2 this year in Wigan, that Prince, having communicated with a girl under the age of 16 and not reasonably believing she was aged 16 or over, attempted to meet her with the intention of having sexual intercourse. The charge of making an indecent pseudo-photograph of a child is made as a contravention of the Protection of Children Act 1978.

Prince was released on bail pending his next appearance at Liverpool Crown Court on July 9 when he is expected to enter a plea.
