Man airlifted to hospital after race crash


A MAN in his 30s had to be airlifted to hospital after a crash during a motorbike race at the Three Sisters track.

The man was believed to be a competitor in the Norasport Supermoto race series which took place on Sunday afternoon.

After an initial assessment by paramedics, the air ambulance was called.

A spokesman for the North West Air Ambulance said: “We were asked to attend the Three Sisters race track shortly before 3pm on Sunday following reports of a crash. A man in his 30s who was thought to be suffering from chest and collarbone injuries was airlifted to Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester.” Supermoto racing is described as a mixture of Motocross and road racing.

The races take place on a specialist circuit that consists of both a tarmac section and also a dirt section, which makes up around a quarter of the track and features obstacles and jumps.
