POLICE have released an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with a town centre assault and robbery.

The 21-year-old victim was attacked on Wallgate by a man who started talking to him at a taxi rank.

They walked onto Wallgate and past the Dog and Partridge pub when the offender then punched the man before stealing his wallet and phone and running off.

The offender is described as being white, 6ft 1in tall and in his late teens or early 20s. He had short brown hair, was clean shaven and wore a long-sleeved black top with white on the arms and red lettering on the chest.

The incident took place at around 7.15am on Saturday October 31 and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are now asking for anyone who recognises the man in the picture or saw what happened to come forward.

DC Andy Hill said: “We have obtained an image of a man we would like to speak to and would ask anyone who recognises him to call us.

“The victim received three cuts to the head but thankfully his injuries are not serious. If you recognise the man or believe you may have witnessed something, please contact us.”
