Man caught drug-driving twice only a month apart

A man will be sentenced later this month after twice being caught drug-driving.

Stephen Royds, 51, of Malvern Crescent, Lower Ince, was stopped by police while at the wheel of a Ford Focus on Warrington Road at 1.30am on Tuesday April 17. He provided a positive saliva sample at the roadside and blood tests were taken after his arrest.

Wigan And Leigh Magistrates’ Court heard he was stopped again on Saturday May 21 and provided a positive saliva sample.

Tess Kenyon, prosecuting, said that both times he was over the legal limit for benzoylecgonine, which is a metabolizer for cocaine. Royds pleaded guilty and the case was adjourned until July 14 for sentencing.

He was released on bail with the condition that he lives at the address on Malvern Crescent. He was also given an interim disqualification from driving.
