Man charged over off-road bike smash

A NINE-year-old girl has been seriously injured after being hit by an off-road motorbike in Wigan.

The youngster, who was unconscious, was rushed to hospital in an air ambulance after the collision in Plane Avenue, Worsley Hall, at 6.20pm on Saturday.

She sustained a broken leg and her current condition was described at serious, but stable.

The rider, 23-year-old Daniel Atkinson, of no fixed abode, was also taken to hospital but was later discharged.

He was arrested and charged with driving without due care and attention, driving while disqualified, using a vehicle without insurance, driving a motorcycle without protective head gear, using a vehicle without a speedometer fitted and using a vehicle not fitted with a horn.

He appeared before Manchester Magistrates Court on Monday June 16, where he was remanded in custody until he is sentenced at the city’s Crown Court on June 30,

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
