A MAN has been charged with the manslaughter of a 62-year-old in Wigan.
At around 1.50am on Tuesday, August 26, police were called to a house on Moresby Close in Leigh, Wigan, following reports of an assault.
Officers attended and established that during the disturbance, a 62-year-old man from a neighbouring property on Moresby Close had been injured.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, but sadly died on Saturday. He has now been formally identified as Derek Alexander Szostok.
A Home Office post-mortem examination established Derek died as a result of flexation of the neck.
William Lynch, 41, of Moresby Close, Leigh, was due to appear before Wigan magistrates today accused of killing Derek Alexander Szostok.
In a statement, Derek’s family have provided the following tribute: “God bless you brother, you will be sadly missed by all the family. Derek lost his fight for life at 4:15pm on August 30, 2014. God Bless you, say hello to mum for us.”
