A YOUNG man has died after being hit by a train in Wigan.
The man, who has yet to be named, was struck by the 6.33pm Manchester Victoria to Wallgate service last night at 7.20pm outside Hindley station.
Paramedics and officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) attended, but the victim, though to be 18 years old, was declared dead at the scene.
Trains between Manchester and Wigan were diverted while a trackside investigation was carried out, but the service was resumed within two hours.
BTP said the circumstances of the death were not being treated as suspicious and that officers will prepare a file for the coroner.
