A YOUNG Wigan man has died in a car smash in Chorley.
Police say the as-yet-unnamed 23-year-old from Standish suffered fatal injuries when the green Ford Focus he was driving careered out of control and crashed into a stone gate entrance on Wigan Road, Coppull.
An appeal was made for witnesses today following the collision at around 3.45am on Sunday.
The road was closed to allow accident investigators to conduct inquiries.
Sgt John Wharton from the road policing unit said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed something to come forward and contact the police.
“This is a very difficult time for the man’s family and we have specially trained family liaison officers supporting them.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lancashire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
