Man leaves voicemail threat on ex's phone

Terrence Parker pleaded guilty to leaving the threatening message at Wigan magistrates court yesterday.

Nicola Ormerod told the court that the 32-year-old had attempted to make contact with Emma Wrudd several times after they broke up following an eight-year relationship.

She said: “On March 15, she received several calls from a withheld number to her mobile phone. A voicemail message was left.”

Miss Ormerod read out what was said in the message, which contained a number of expletives.

Parker also called his exgirlfriend a liar and said he was going to kill her.

Miss Ormerod added: “The police were contacted and she said she recognised his voice. The defendant was arrested and interviewed the following day.”

Parker, of Pepys Place in Poolstock, pleaded guilty to the incident.

Miss Ormerod also read out a statement from Miss Wrudd in which the victim said she confirmed she had received a threatening message and that described her ex-boyfriend as “unpredictable.”

She also requested that a restraining order be put in place, preventing Parker from contacting her.

Melissa Fagan, defending, acknowledged the incident had upset Miss Wrudd but pointed out how she didn’t request any specialist measures after being interviewed by police.

Magistrates handed Parker a 12-month community order, which included a 30-day rehabilitation requirement. They also put a 12-month restraining order in place, preventing him from contacting Miss Wrudd or entering Accacia Crescent.

He was ordered to pay £75 compensation, £60 victim surcharge, £85 costs and was fined £300.
