Man searched for 'kiddie porn'

Police officers went to Daniel Roe’s Hindley home on October 11, 2013 after receiving information from the Russian police, said Helen Richardson, prosecuting at Liverpool Crown Court.

When his computer was analysed it was found to have a total of 127 images, including some video clips. Although 94 were in the least serious category there were 21 in the most serious group.

The images were of children aged four to 15 and both girls and boys.

It was found that he had been using search terms such as “kiddie porn” and “under age sex”, Miss Richardson told Liverpool Crown Court.

When interviewed Roe, who is now 29, made full admissions, she added.

Roe, of Broadway, Hindley, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to three offences of downloading indecent images of children.

Philip Martin, defending, said that there had been a considerable delay in bringing the case before the court which was not Roe’s fault and he had consequently had the matter hanging over his head for a considerable time.

He told the judge: “Clearly his behaviour was unacceptable and he could not complain if you imposed a custodial sentence.”

Judge Robert Warnock said that he had pleaded guilty at an early stage and shown a degree of insight into the effects on the children in the images.

He imposed a three-year community order with attendance on the Northumbria Sex Offenders’ programme and ordered him to sign on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years. He also imposed a five-year Sexual Harm Behaviour Order.
