Man stabbed in Whalley Range

POLICE are continuing to investigate after a man was stabbed in Whalley Range.

At about 9.20am today, Tuesday 12 May 2015, the victim was attacked whilst walking along Alexandra Road South, near to Alexandra Park, having come from Yarburgh Street.

The 18-year-old victim was taken to hospital, where he has undergone surgery and is in a stable condition.

Alexandra Park remains closed as police enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Cunliffe of South Manchester Police said: “The victim has now undergone surgery and is doing well. It may be a few days before we can speak to him, so I am appealing for witnesses to come forward who may have seen the incident unfolding.

“We believe that two men were involved in the stabbing and will be focussing our attention on the park and trying to apprehend the attackers.

“I would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we are investigating and we are trying to reopen the park as soon as possible.

“Whilst we are keeping an open mind about what occurred, I would like to reassure the public that this does not appear to be a random attack.”
