Man suffers broken jaw after unprovoked assault in Wigan nightclub

A man was knocked out and left with serious facial injuries after he was attacked by a thug while on a night out.

The 27-year-old was callously attacked while enjoying a night out at the Play & Rewind bar on King Street on Sunday April 8.

It was around 4am when he purchased a drink and stood near the front door.

He was then struck to his head, causing him to stagger, and received a second blow that caused him to fall to the floor unconscious.

He was taken to hospital and was treated for a broken jaw, broken cheekbone and fractures to his face.

He has since been released from hospital.

Following enquiries, police established that a white male was seen fleeing the club shortly after the assault wearing dark trousers and a white t-shirt.

No further description of the suspected offender is available at this time.

Police are appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed the assault or knows who is responsible.

Police Constable Andrew Davies of GMP’s Wigan division said: “This was an unprovoked assault on a member of the public who was simply enjoying a night out.

“The victim sustained a number of serious facial injuries and may suffer a long term impairment of vision due to the assault.

“Thankfully he has now been released from hospital and we wish him well during his recovery.”
