James Gornall, 30, who has no fixed address, admitted breaching the peace when he appeared at Wigan Magistrates’ Court.

The magistrates heard how Gornall had a history of alcohol misuse problems, and having been discharged the previous day, he returned on April 4, demanding to be readmitted.

He caused a disturbance, which alarmed staff and police attended to arrest him.

Pleading guilty, Gornall said: “I was desperate to be admitted.”

The court clerk told him: “Hospitals are full of sick people and doctors and nurses have better things to do when dealing in emergencies than face someone turning up drunk. If you were ill, that is a different thing, but this was drink induced.

“You need to stop drinking.”

Gornall replied: “I am going to get help.”

He was given a bind over for 12 months for a fee of £100.
