Masked robbers flee Wigan store with cash and cigarettes

An axe-wielding armed gang raided a supermarket and threatened staff as they plundered cash and cigarettes.

The incident took place at a supermarket in Gidlow Lane, believed to be Tesco Express shortly before 11pm on Thursday, May 10.

Three males wearing balaclavas, armed with an axe and hammer, entered the store and made threats to staff.

They left with a quantity of cash and cigarettes. There were no injuries.

The first offender is described as 6ft tall, of slim build and was wearing a black balaclava, blue hooded jumper with a white zip and tassels and was carrying a black axe.

The second offender is described as 5ft 11ins tall, of slim build and was wearing a blue North Face jacket and grey bottoms, black trainers and was carrying a white cloth.

The third offender is described as 6ft tall, of slim build and was wearing a long khaki green coat, black bottoms and black trainers and was carrying a claw hammer.
