THREE men have been charged with robbery and aggravated vehicle theft following a high speed road smash.
Dean Brown, 24, Leyton Dewitt, 22, both of no fixed address and William Garry, 34, of Chaucer Grove, Atherton, have been charged with robbery, burglary and aggravated vehicle taking.
They were remanded to appear at Wigan Magistrates’ Court on Thursday June 11.
A gang struck at the NatWest in Atherton’s Market Street at 3.25pm on Tuesday June 9, threatening staff with axes.
The intruders fled with a quantity of cash and made their escape in a silver Mazda car that had been waiting outside.
But just minutes later a vehicle answering the getaway car’s description was involved in a crash with another vehicle on Leigh Road, Atherton, near to its junction with Kirkhall Lane.
An elderly woman driving the other vehicle collapsed at the scene. She was placed on a spinal board after complaining of back pain and was taken to hospital.
The Mazda ended up on its roof and two men were arrested at the scene. A third man was later arrested.
