Following on from our story last week about a motorist’s motorway car smash terror another readerhas contacted us about a similar experience.
Stephen Higham of Holborn Avenue, Poolstock, said: “I was saddened to read about Mr Griffin’s terror car journey in the Wigan area recently, but not surprised. I too have had my car attacked whilst driving to work in Manchester.”
Mr Holborn said at around 5am on February 20, he was driving along the Mancunian Way, where the A56 Chester Road roundabout passes overhead. when he heard a loud noise.
He said: “I heard a bang and thought a tyre had blown, until I saw that my rear window was smashed. I pulled over in a safe place to find my roof severely damaged and masonry dust on the boot lid. The police attended but found no-one.
“I even sent an email to Manchester Council, just in case something had fallen from the bridge, but they found no damage or structural issues to the bridges.
“I am a train driver, so I’m used to things being thrown at my trains, but not my car.
“Had there not been a spare driver that morning, the services that I should have worked would have been cancelled. Had it hit my car around a second earlier, my next journey could have been in a hearse!
“These mindless idiots need to understand the consequences of their actions, but the don’t care.
“One day, someone is going to pay the ultimate price, whilst I will be paying a higher car insurance premium when it’s due for renewal.”
