A WIGAN community centre is marking the anniversary of the First World War with two events.
Residents are invited to Sunshine House, in Scholes Precinct, on Wednesday to help create a poppy mosaic.
Elizabeth Griffiths from Craftwork Studios will lead the project, where people can pop in anytime after 11am to contribute to the work. There is also an opportunity to buy a balloon for £1 and dedicate it to a relative. The balloon will then be set free,
There will also be a special commemorative concert to make 100 years since the start of the war, to be held Whelley Ex-Servicemen’s Club, in Scholes Precinct, on Friday at 7pm.
Louise Fazackerly will read war poems, singer Sarah Dennis will perform and there will be nostalgic music from the choir of Smiths Academy, plus a piper and drummer.
Deputy leader of the council, David Molyneux, will read the roll call of soldiers.
Special mugs and coasters will also be on sale.
