A SECTION of the M62 which was closed in both directions after a lorry smash has re-opened to traffic.
Wigan folk planning cross-Pennine trips on Monday found themselves in huge tailbacks or long detours after Monday morning’s collisions.
A lorry heading west between the junctions at Rishworth Moor and Milnrow careered out of control and burst through the central reservation shortly after 8am.
The 37-year-old lorry driver was critically injured and had to be airlifted to hospital. Two other vehicle occupants also suffered relatively minor injuries.
The motorway was closed in both directions for most of the day as the scene was examined and repairs carried out to the make the carriageways safe again.
