POLICE are still hunting thugs who broke a Wigan woman’s cheekbone after she tried to stop them stealing her handbag.

The 30-year-old was attacked from behind as she walked down Trafalgar Road in Swinley at 2am on March 24.

She resisted when one grabbed her bag but was punched in the face and crashed to the ground. The pair then stole cash and fled towards Wrightington Street.

The first mugger was white, in his late 20s, 5ft 10ins tall and unshaven. He wore a dark coloured tracksuit with white markings on the arm, a black cap and he spoke with a local accent.

His accomplice was white, in his late 20s or early 30s. He was 5ft 8ins tall with stubble, scruffy fair hair and it is thought he had a number of front teeth missing. He wore a baggy, light coloured jumper, dark baggy jeans and spoke with a local accent.

PC John Caterall from the Volume Crime Team said: “I would urge anyone who may have seen the robbery or two men running in the direction of Wrightington Street at around 2am that morning to contact police.”

Anyone with details should ring police on 0161 856 7203 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
