A WIGAN mum died after tripping over collapsed barriers around a dug-up pavement.
Marie Kirkham was only walking a matter of yards to her friend’s home in Pemberton but had caught her foot on the edge of a plastic warning fence which had fallen or been pushed over round the excavation, a jury at Bolton Coroner’s Court heard.
She landed heavily on the kerb, breaking her left hip which needed immediate surgery at Wigan Infirmary, including pinning the bone in three places.
But the 57-year-old mother of two was rushed back to hospital again three weeks later after collapsing at her home when she suffered a cardiac arrest.
A self-employed contract cleaner, Mrs Kirkham failed to respond to CPR in the ambulance and was later declared dead after further unsuccessful attempts to re-start her heart in the hospital.
