IT almost seems fitting of such a momentous achievement for the vast majority of Wigan Athletic’s players to forget to pick up their medals.
Nobody gave the Latics a chance on Saturday but they proved all their doubters wrong. In the midst of such celebrations, all but four of their players forgot to pick up their medals as they filed along the famous Wembley steps to the royal box.
After the first four players had received their winners medals, FA chief David Bernstein appeared to turn to talk to somebody and forgot to hand over any more medals. Eventually a club official was given the medals to then hand out to the players.
There were strong rumours that a number of Manchester City players left their runners-up medals in a bin in their dressing room, which only goes to show how great an achievement it was for Wigan to beat City and that should not be underestimated. They were exceptional to a man and in their euphoric celebrations it appears that they forgot their medals - priceless.
