TONIGHT 11 Wigan Athletic players will make history by starting the first ever European fixture in the history of the club.
With a large number of fans having made the journey to Belgium to see the Latics play Zulte-Waregem in the Jan Breydel Stadium in Bruges this evening it is a significant milestone for the town.
The loyal following of fans who have travelled the length and breadth of the nation to support Wigan are now being rewarded with the chance to have their club known on the European stage.
The club, the fans and the town deserve this chance to play some of Europe’s finest sides following that amazing FA Cup run earlier this year, culminating in that magnificent day in May.
So let us hope the club and the fans do Wigan proud tonight as the Latics set off on their Europa League adventure. Tonight’s result will not see them either go through or knocked out but it would be great to see the lads get off to a good start as the continent look on. Good luck Latics and do Wigan proud once again.
