RAISE a glass to the late Simon Taylor.
He was one of the unsung heroes hauling the barrels and dishing out the liquid refreshment at 20 of the past Bent and Bongs Beer Bash festivals.
Tragically he died, aged just 34, on the eve of last year’s event.
Family and friends thought he had flu. But what even Simon himself didn’t know was his body was battling Marfan’s Syndrome, a disorder of connective tissue that can affect the eyes, skeleton, lungs and heart. It’s as common as cystic fibrosis, affecting an estimated one in 5000 people, yet few people know about it.
How appropriate that January 26/28’s event will now raise funds for research.
