COMMENT - Money advice services can help

IT will not come as a surprise to many that families all over the borough are feeling the pinch of economic hardship more than in other areas of the country.

The StepChange charity has reported increasing numbers of parents contacting them and high fuel bills and food costs are contributing to the problem.

It is vital that families – or individuals – who are worried that they could be heading into unmanageable debt problems must seek advice as soon as possible.

The earlier the better is the way forward, many organisations offer free advice services including local authorities and charities.

Changes to the Welfare System mean rent and payments must be paid direct rather than have them taken straight from their benefits so people must display competent money management skills.

Our advice is to use the services that are available – that is what they are there for.

You may just pick something up that could really help.
