COMMENT - New agony for family

OUR hearts go out to the family of Carly Fairhurst as they absorb news that her killer has been handed his route to release.

They knew the day would one day come when the parole board ruled Darren Pilkington, who had already served one manslaughter sentence, would be deemed fit enough to return to society. But for the possibility of this man’s liberty being secured as early as April 2015 - just nine years after he killed the Hindley teen - would be hard for any parent to bear. All they and we can hope is that he has learnt the ghastly errors of his ways.
