COMMENT - No sympathy for fraudster

BENEFITS cheat Mark Schofield may very well cry after admitting he fiddled £60,000 over seven years.

Because for all the passive nature of the Tyldesley man’s crime – neglecting to tell the authorities that he was living with his partner – he just as surely stole from us taxpayers as if he had burgled a house or robbed a bank.

There has been a steady stream of Wigan people going through the courts of late accused of benefit fraud and it is good to see a crackdown taking effect.

No sympathy should be shown Schofield either by the courts or the public whom he ripped off.
